Urban Outfitters President Is Right-Wing Conservative, Donated To Rick Santorum - and sold me a T-shirt

First off, as the new TAHLIB (3.0) around here, I'm a big fan of Urban Outfitters. You can ask my wife to verify the credit card balance. Secondly, I'm also a conservative who was looking forward to voting for Rick Santorum in the Kentucky Presidential primary for the Republican nomination (Yes, I am still registered back home...where my vote counts), so you can imagine my dismay when I came across this rant about both in The GLOSS:
Anyway, after I read the post, I immediately bought online a brand new set of clothes (I hate store shopping anyway), and although I didn't buy the controversial Wood Wood Tee (there's still some explaining they have to do about that one), I did make more than a small dent in the proverbial bank account. I know, I know. I will pay for my aggressive shopping habit later when my wife reads this, but today this purchase was just the right thing to do, and I believe in either going large, or not at all.
In America, where religious art has been exiled to church art galleries instead of art dealer galleries, we could certainly use some leadership from guys who wear their religious Beliefs on their sleeves. In America, where many of my friends back home can't find jobs but are still searching for a spiritual connection while dressing like slobs, there's also a place that offers hope. It's a place with super casual trendy style that I call home (No, not the GAP). It's called Urban Outfitters. Thank you The GLOSS for letting me know my money is going to support a middle-aged, uber-conservative white man, like the one I want to be myself one day. Remember last week, when we all agreed that Urban Outfitters is an asshole? Well, good news — we were right! According to an in-depth report by the Philadelphia Weekly, Richard Hayne, the man who started and still owns the international clothing chain, is a hardcore conservative who has donated in the past to Rick Santorum. In other words, the heart and brain of Urban Outfitters literally is an asshole. This might explain why transphobic and xenophobic “jokes” have been making their way onto Urban products slowly but surely. [link]Could this be true? Could a conservative own the chain my wife and I love? I could only be so lucky. Could the man who owns it also be a donor to my favorite Roman Catholic conservative (and Pennsylvania home-boy) Rick Santorum? I wish I had an extra buck to send too, but the cost of living in NYC and keeping our place in Kentucky is taxing.

This past week, a friend who is devoted to the secularization of the visual arts told me she was both repulsed by the trend amongs many church art galleries to display "pretty" pictures instead of meaningful works in their exhibitions, while at the same time she thought that putting up artworks that explored religious themes was "too much religiousity." Secularization advocates live in the tough place in today's artworld so we are here to save them, and along the way we might save people like you too! (smile)
