"SPEECHLESS" (above), by Shirin Neshat is the NEWS OF WEEK. This 1996 photograph is from her series “Women of Allah,” and this week, it was one of several religious-themed works aquired by the Collectors Committee at the L.A. County Museum of Art. In other religious art news:

  • BUDDHISM: Archaeologists unearthed 3,000 ancient Buddhist statues in China. [More: Art News]

  • JUDAISM: A Jewish Star "T-Shirt" design sold by Urban Outfitters ignited a storm of protest by Jewish Civil Rights leaders. [More: Art News]

Tough call choosing between the Jewish Star T-shirt vs the Islamic Art photography as the NEWS OF WEEK. Ernest picked the "T" but I made final decision with the photograph. Both dealt directly with Art & Faith, but the "T" as a design element vs. a fine art piece came second for me, but it's still one of the most important stories of the week.

Also, regarding the Friday photo series, "Five4Friday" is far ahead of "PhotoFriday," and I'm playing with "5WorldFriday" should the voting stay focused on the "five" over "Photo."

You made a good call, but it would be harder to argue that more people were talking about your pick than mine. Mine was definitely that TALK OF WEEK in the news media, but your pick is definitely a better art news story.
