INDIA---According to Hindu mythology, Mahashivratri is Lord Shiva's favorite day. Maha Shivratri is celebrated to revere Lord Shiva who is also known as Padmarajarathri. Alternate common names/spellings for this day include Maha Sivaratri, Shivaratri, Sivarathri, and Shivaratri. It literally means the great night of Shiva or the night of Shiva and is celebrated on the 13th night/14th day of the Magh or Phalguna month of the Hindu calendar.
