THE NEW YORK TIMES
By Ken Johnson
NEW YORK---
Mary Carlson’s wonderfully soulful little ceramic sculptures in
this show represent Adam and Eve and various Christian saints. From four and six inches tall, they are made of white porcelain and glazed in watery colors that appear faded by time, as if they’d been made many years ago and were recently found in a thrift shop. Titles indicate they are based on figures from famous paintings.
"Paradise" at Elizabeth Harris Gallery, 529 West 20th Street, Chelsea, Through June 21. [
