ITALY---The major exhibition, "Pontormo and Rosso. Diverging Paths of Mannerism," attracted 150,000 visitors according to Artdaily. The artist Pontormo, also known as Jacopo Carucci (May 24, 1494 – January 2, 1557) was an Italian Mannerist painter. His work represents a stylistic shift from the calm perspectival regularity that characterized the art of the Florentine Renaissance. He is famous for his use of twining poses, coupled with ambiguous perspective. His figures often seem to float in an uncertain environment, unhampered by the forces of gravity. The exhibition ended on July 20, 2014 at Palazzo Strozzi in Florence.
