ALPHA OMEGA ARTS
By

One weekend for the best of New York City's
religious art is all we have left. After eight years of biannual gatherings, this is our last in the city where A&O began in 2008. Of course, we will pay our respects at the
site of the World Trade Center; say a prayer at the site of my former church home; and take a last look at the building that once housed the
Museum of Biblical Art, but what if we could only choose "one thing" to do each day? Below, we’ve listed one daily highlight planned to ensure our grand finale in the birthplace of A
lpha Omega Arts.
Friday, November 13, 2015 - The Book of Mormon
|
The Book of Mormon opened on Broadway in 2011, three years after the defeat of gay marriage in California |
This is to all the non-believers out there, the ones who say that Christianity cannot survive on Broadway. I've seen
Jesus Christ Superstar,
Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, and more but the king of them all is the one we're finally going to see tonight at the Eugene O’Neill Theater. Described as a pleasure-seeking musical about White Christians who live in Utah, but go out on missions to strange places like Africa (They are in Harlem too). It opened in 2011, and we are finally going to see “The Book of Mormon.”

Saturday, November 14, 2015 - The Sheen Center
Sunday, November 15, 2015 - Keith Haring at the Cathedral

"Life of Christ" altarpiece by Keith Haring at the Cathedral of Saint John the Divine |
New York City has an amazing number of beautiful churches, but one stands out: The Cathedral of St. John the Divine. Located high on a hill on the Upper Westside, it does not enjoy the presence of its Roman Catholic sister downtown but like the rest of the Episcopal denomination, it stands alone in bridging its medieval roots with the contemporary world of today. The official tour of architecture and stained glass focuses on St. John’s unique blend of modern New York and medieval Europe, but what matters most to us is the "Life of Christ" altarpiece by Keith Haring.
