TURKEY---Arabic, or rather, Islamci calligraphy has a long history in Turkey dating back to  the days of the Ottoman Empire. In fact, clligraphy is especially revereal among the Islamic arts since it was the primary means for the preservation of the Quran. There is also the kanomian calligraphy, names after Sultan Suleyman Kanoni. [link]
